Closing the STEM Opportunity Gap with All-Access Video
In this episode, Nhon Ma shares insights into his life, which explains his motivation for creating and shaping Numerade, along with the changes during COVID-19.
Nhon Ma is a native Angeleno who grew up in South Central and East LA and is the co-founder and CEO of Numerade, Inc. One of the more salient memories of his childhood is of his daily bus commutes from East LA to the tiny private school Campbell Hall in North Hollywood. During these rides, tired houses and apartment buildings with metal-barred windows and graffitied concrete gave way to tree-lined vistas of grassy lawns and stately homes.
Nhon went on to graduate from Columbia University with a B.A. in economics and psychology. He is a 2x Googler, with stints in product, strategy, operations, and analytics across Google’s newest and most innovative businesses. He now has come full-circle back to Los Angeles where he heads the edtech company Numerade, a short-form video education platform that arms students with the tools they need to excel in all STEM subjects.
He draws his passion for making education accessible to all–particularly democratizing STEM education–from his experiences as a broke high school student determined to keep up academically with classmates who had the best tutors and resources at their disposal. When he is not fulfilling his life’s mission to help narrow the educational opportunity gap, he thinks about tacos, the Clippers, his wife, and two adorable little children.
