In the first episode of Osmo Education’s STEAMY Summer podcast series, our guest is Adam Peterson. Adam is an award-winning educator from Illinois and a nationally recognized speaker. After spending more than a decade as a kindergarten teacher, Adam now uses his knowledge and talents to inspire, educate, and motivate other teachers to create classrooms and play-based steam strategies that encourage creativity, play, and hands-on learning. He is author of the recent book Teach, Play, Learn.

Adam discusses the reasons why play is an important part of learning in the STEAM subject areas, shares some “non-obvious” opportunities to incorporate play-based learning, describes strategies used in kindergarten that are also useful for upper elementary grades, and more.

Tip: To close out the episode, Adam shares his number one “Tip” for teachers using Osmo learning tools to begin the next school year: letting students explore by creating a space in the classroom that is a dedicated “Osmo area” where kids can use the tools anytime.
