What: Former U.S. Secretary of Education John B. King Jr., will receive the Dr. Effie H. Jones Humanitarian Award at the 2017 National Conference on Education, hosted by AASA, The School Superintendents Association, in New Orleans, La. This award recognizes leaders who exemplify the qualities modeled by the late Effie Hall Jones. She was a school administrator, teacher, counselor, and a champion of women and minorities in educational leadership. Equity and opportunity were the hallmarks of her work. Closing the academic, health and social gaps was one of the cardinal intents of her rigorous efforts to increase the number of women and minority school system leaders.
When: The announcement will be made Friday, March 3, 2017, from 11:45 a.m. – 12:45 p.m. (local time).
