Pioneering edtech researcher and education futurist Sonny Magana will lead a day-long session to train educators on his T3 Framework for Innovation in Education

September 13, 2018 – Pioneering edtech researcher and education futurist Dr. Sonny Magana has announced a partnership with the Ventura County Office of Education (VCOE) Technology Services and VCOE Leadership Support Services that will present educators with the opportunity to receive training on Magana’s high-impact T3 Framework for Innovation in Education. On Wednesday, September 26, Magana will present a day-long session, titled T3 Challenge Foundational Organization Development and Strategic Planning, available to teachers, administrators, coaches, and IT staff who are involved in day-to-day student learning. The event will be held at the Conference and Educational Services Center in Camarillo, Calif., and information about registration is available here.

Participants will dive into Magana’s T3 Framework for Innovation in Education, an actionable model for learning organizations to shift from low-impact technology use toward systemic technology uses that have an observed effect size of ES=1.6—or the equivalent of four or more additional years of learning in a single year. The framework categorizes technology’s impact on learning into three domains:

  • T1: Translational—Leveraging technology to translate analog activities into digital activities, increasing accuracy and speed.
  • T2: Transformational—Leveraging technology to transform the learner, the learning, and its outcomes.
  • T3: Transcendent—Leveraging technology to ignite the creative spirit in all learners, allowing everyone to reach their full potential.

All educators attending the Ventura County event are invited to join the T3 Challenge, which will lead to a deeper understanding of the framework, year-long learning opportunities, and the chance to share successes and best practices with peers. Of the T3 Challenge, world-renowned education researcher John Hattie has stated, “This is a powerful, credible, and exciting challenge that Magana has offered us: Let’s do it.”

At the first event, educators will build their understanding of the T3 Framework, complete a self-reflective survey to gain insight into their practice, and set professional mastery goals for the coming year. During the year they will be participating in one to two asynchronous, online learning courses to deepen framework’s domains and elements, as well as proven strategies to effectively engage students with innovative teaching and learning practices. In addition to the online learning opportunities, T3 Challenge participants will have the opportunity to meet “live online” with Dr. Magana for additional discussions and coaching. Live interactive sessions will be organized by site and/or as a county collaborative. The challenge concludes with a group celebration and certification symposium at the end of the year.

“It is truly exciting to partner with the Ventura County Office of Education to bring southern California educators into the T3 Challenge. I’ve been amazed and gratified by the response to the T3 Framework and, for me, it is a wonderful opportunity to work with so many educators to drive positive results in student learning,” said Magana. “What the research shows, without a doubt, is that technology alone does not benefit learning. But, when paired with the right instructional strategies, we can see results that are, quite simply, ‘off the charts.’ I love working with educators to build expertise in these high-impact strategies and increase the benefits of technology in education.”

The T3 Challenge Foundational Organization Development and Strategic Planning session on September 26 runs from 8:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. and includes breakfast, lunch, and a copy of Dr. Magana’s book, Disruptive Classroom Technologies: A Framework for Innovation in Education. All educators who have a role in day-to-day student learning are invited to learn more and register
