DuPont and Discovery Education Recognized as Finalists for 2024 U.S. Chamber of Commerce Awards

Charlotte, NC and Wilmington, Del (Wednesday, October 2, 2024) — DuPont and Discovery Education have been named finalists in the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation Citizens Award for the Best Commitment to Education Category. The Citizens Awards highlight corporate leadership and partnership in helping to solve society’s biggest challenges.

Delaware-headquartered DuPont is dedicated to making a meaningful difference in education by supporting efforts to ensure that students are equipped, engaged, and aware of the opportunities in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). The Delaware Department of Education, DuPont, and Discovery Education established a multiyear partnership in 2021 to increase middle and high school students’ access to high-quality STEM instructional resources and support the development of career and technical education pathway programs across the state that directly address gaps in STEM careers.

“As an innovation-driven company, we created this unique partnership together with Discovery Education and the Delaware Department of Education to inspire the next generation of STEM-focused talent. We are proud to take a leadership role in exposing students to great STEM and technical careers they can start right out of high school.  The program also benefits DuPont and other employers by building a stronger diverse and inclusive talent pipeline in our home state of Delaware and across the United States,” said Patrick McCrummen, Global Leader of Community and Social Impact at DuPont. “We are proud to partner with Discovery Education to boost student STEM success, and we are incredibly honored to be recognized as a finalist for this work.”

As part of the partnership, DuPont is a member of the STEM Careers Coalition spearheaded by Discovery Education. The Coalition effectively connects the dots between classrooms and careers to inspire and help students learn and implement STEM skills to make a difference in the world. Nationally, DuPont’s leadership in the STEM Careers Coalition has helped reach over 10 million students. Together in Delaware, DuPont and Discovery Education reached 95 schools with over 115,000 students.

“DuPont’s partnership with the Delaware Department of Education and Discovery Education is a powerful example of what’s possible when public and private organizations unite to address big challenges,” said Marc DeCourcey, Senior Vice President at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation. “This unique collaboration is impacting countless lives and building brighter futures for the next generation.”

Finalists and winners in each category are selected by an external panel of business and non-profit leaders who are making an impact through purpose and innovation within their organizations. . This year, 30 companies have shown outstanding leadership in driving solutions to the world’s biggest problems, from educating America’s youth on the power of civic engagement, to delivering lifesaving medical supplies during humanitarian crises, to improving access to mental health care for underserved populations.

Citizens Awards winners will be announced during the 2024 Business Solves Conference on October 29-30. More information about the awards and finalists is available on the U.S. Chamber Foundation’s website

“One of the best ways for students to succeed in STEM is to see it in action. Our unique partnership with DuPont empowers students to see STEM leaders of all kinds transforming the world through innovation,” said Amy Nakamoto, Executive Vice President of Corporate Partnerships at Discovery Education. “We are grateful for the judges of the Citizens Awards for this recognition, and thankful for DuPont’s dedication to the students and educators of Delaware and the United States.”
