Google Bard Versus ChatGPT – AI in Education

Bard, similar to ChatGPT, is a large language model known as a conversational AI or chatbot. The tool is trained to be informative and comprehensive. The AI is trained on massive text data and can communicate and generate human-like text in response to a wide range of prompts and questions. For example, Bard can provide summaries of factual topics or create stories.

Part of Bard’s programming prohibits Bard from creating biased, unsafe, or unfair replies.

ChatGPT versus Bard

ChatGPT and Bard are both large language models (LLMs) capable of generating text, translating languages, writing creative content, and answering your questions informatively. However, there are some critical differences between the two models.

ChatGPT is a generative pre-trained transformer (GPT) model, while Bard is a LaMDA model. GPT models are trained on a massive amount of text data, while LaMDA models are trained on an enormous amount of text and code data. This difference in training data is likely one of the reasons why ChatGPT is better at generating text and translating languages. At the same time, Bard is better at answering your questions in an informative way.

Another critical difference between ChatGPT and Bard is that ChatGPT is a closed-source model, while Bard is an open-source model. This means that the code for ChatGPT is not available to the public, while the code for Bard is available to the public. This difference in accessibility is likely one of the reasons why ChatGPT is more widely used than Bard.

Who is behind ChatGPT?

OpenAI, a non-profit artificial intelligence research laboratory in San Francisco, California, develops ChatGPT. The company was founded in 2015 by Elon Musk, Sam Altman, Ilya Sutskever, and others. OpenAI has raised over $1 billion in funding from various investors, including Peter Thiel, Reid Hoffman, and Khosla Ventures.

In January 2023, Microsoft announced a $10 billion investment in OpenAI, giving Microsoft access to ChatGPT and other OpenAI technologies. The investment is part of Microsoft’s efforts to develop artificial intelligence technologies for its products and services.

Other companies that have invested in OpenAI include Amazon, Temasek, and Tencent. These investments suggest that OpenAI is seen as a leader in the field of artificial intelligence and that its technologies have the potential to be used in a variety of applications.

The differences

Bard and ChatGPT are still under development, and both have their strengths and weaknesses. Regardless they are both here to stay.

AI in Education

Like ChatGPT, Bard has the potential to be a valuable tool in education. It can provide personalized tutoring and support to students, help students learn new concepts and skills, encourage them to think critically and creatively, provide feedback on their work, engage students in active learning, and motivate them to learn.

Bard can be used in various settings, including K-12 classrooms, higher education, professional development, and corporate training.

Bard can be used to provide personalized tutoring and support to students in various ways. For example, Bard can help students with their homework, give feedback on their writing, or help them prepare for tests. The tool can help students learn new concepts and skills. For instance, Bard can provide instruction on a particular topic, help students practice a skill, or give the students feedback on their work.
