KidWind Wind Experiment Kits Named One of the Best EdTech Products of 2024

The KidWind Wind Experiment Kits from Vernier Science Education were recently named a winner in the Secondary Education category of the Tech & Learning Awards of Excellence: Best of 2024. This industry-leading award recognized the kits for their ease of use, value, versatility, and utility in helping students make scientific connections about the real-world impact of renewable clean wind energy.

“With energy demands climbing due to population growth, increased use of personal technology data center needs, and the electrification of transportation, it is becoming increasingly important to teach students about renewable and clean energy. This includes the essential role of wind energy in creating a balanced and sustainable energy future,” said Jill Hedrick, CEO of Vernier Science Education. “As underscored by this recent recognition from Tech & Learning, the KidWind Wind Experiment Kits make it easy and accessible to do just that in today’s science and STEM classrooms. When combined with our data-collection technology, the kits enable students to engage in hands-on learning as they practice reading and interpreting data and graphs, communicating their findings to peers, and collaborating with others—all of which are essential college and career readiness skills.”

Both the basic and advanced versions of the KidWind Wind Experiment Kits provide a cost-effective, hands-on way for students to explore renewable energy, Earth science, and engineering concepts such as clean energy, energy transformation, principles of generators, energy efficiency, and more. Using the kits, students can build their own wind turbines, test a variety of blade designs, generate electricity, lift weights, and conduct a number of experiments.

The KidWind Basic Wind Experiment Kit provides students in upper elementary school and beyond with all of the materials needed—including a wind turbine generator, nacelle, blade materials, and tower assembly—to investigate wind-generated power output and participate in design challenges.

The KidWind Advanced Wind Experiment Kit expands student investigations into more advanced aspects of wind turbine technology, including gear ratios, efficiency, power curves, and advanced blade design concepts.

Additionally, students can use the kits to participate in engineering design challenges at the classroom or school level or as part of the KidWind Challenge, a hands-on design competition where student teams showcase their small-scale wind turbines and solar structure designs.
