Lexia Invites Educators to Join the Science of Reading Conversation in Season Three of the “All for Literacy” Podcast

Series host Dr. Liz Brooke and a rotation of expert guests bridge the gap between research and practice to empower educators to improve literacy outcomes

BOSTON (Sept. 3, 2024) – The third season of the “All for Literacy” podcast series from Lexia, a Cambium Learning Group brand, launched August 6. Hosted by Lexia’s Chief Learning Officer, Dr. Liz Brooke, the highly-rated podcast examines the nexus of literacy, research, and the practical application of that science with leading experts in the fields. Listeners can tune in to new episodes, as well as the first two seasons of the series, via Apple Podcasts, Spotify ,Audible, Podchaser, and Youtube.

Across eight new episodes, season three of “All for Literacy” will continue to explore how scientific findings are being applied in classrooms today — and how teachers can use this information to help all students become successful readers. In each episode, Brooke will host a conversation with one or more expert guests who will share their insights and experiences with listeners who are seeking effective ways to transform their literacy instruction, bridge gaps, and create more equitable learning experiences.

“We frequently hear from educators that what makes the ‘All for Literacy’ podcast so valuable is that it not only shares literacy research findings, but it helps them understand why the research matters and how it connects to their daily work in classrooms and schools,” said Brooke. “They also say it’s convenient. Our episodes typically range from 30-60 minutes so educators can get the information they need in bite-size chunks, whenever and wherever it works for them to tune in.”

Season three will feature a roster of educators, researchers, and experts with specialized knowledge and experience in the field of literacy and the science of reading.

• In episode 1, guest Dr. Julie Washington, University of California – Irvine professor, discusses the experience of implementing evidence-based programming for equitable literacy education and how we shouldn’t think about the current environment as ‘reading wars’ but instead as a ‘reading revolution.’ She talks about the cyclical nature of research and what we can learn from the past and apply it to the future. She also shares more on the important topic of dialects, language variations, and multilingual students.
• In episode 2, guest Daniella Bass, an expert in adolescent literacy, will explore the transformative power of culturally responsive teaching. Bass will share her insights on addressing the pervasive issue of inequitable learning experiences and highlight effective strategies for fostering an inclusive classroom environment.

• In episode 3, guests Dr. Linnea Ehri, an educational psychologist and expert on the development of reading, and Dr. Katie Pace Miles, a professor at Brooklyn College, will explore Ehri’s 4 Phases of Word Reading. They will also talk about how those phases and orthographic mapping can be utilized in the classroom.

• Additional topics planned for the season include: instructional policy and data use at the district level; a look at the most pressing structured literacy questions from LETRS Applied!; and athletes and literacy, among others.

“All for Literacy,” which debuted in February 2023, has a rating of 4.9 on Apple Podcasts and 4.7 on Spotify. To listen to episodes or learn more about the podcast series visit https://www.allforliteracy.com/.
