NBA and Discovery Education Invite Educators and Students Nationwide to Free Virtual Field Trip

Charlotte, NC (Monday, April 1, 2024)—The National Basketball Association (NBA) and Discovery Education — the global edtech leader whose state-of-the-art digital resources nurture student curiosity—invite students and teachers nationwide to participate in Game Plan for the Future: A Virtual Field Trip with the NBA. Premiering Thursday, April 18, 2024, at 1:00 PM ET, this free virtual field trip for students in grades 3-8 showcases how STEM concepts are helping the NBA think about sustainability in its arenas and offices and spark an individual’s interest in sustainability to improve the communities in which they are located.

This unique virtual field trip will take participating students behind the scenes of the LEED Gold-certified facilities of the Golden State Warriors and the Orlando Magic. During these tours, students will learn how these eco-friendly buildings and the technologies within are enhancing the lives of the teams’ neighbors in San Francisco and in downtown Orlando. Then, students will be transported to the NBA headquarters in New York City to meet some of the amazing individuals behind the League’s efforts to support NBA arenas across the league towards a cleaner and more sustainable future. In addition, students on this virtual field trip will meet Orlando Magic Forward Franz Wagner, who will share what he is doing to protect the environment for future generations. Accompanying resources designed for use before, during, and after the VFT help educators integrate this event into classroom instruction.

Educators interested in registering for this free event should visit the Game Plan for the Future: A Virtual Field Trip with the NBA registration page.

“The NBA is excited to share with students how STEM skills are helping build the Earth-friendly arenas of the future,” said NBA Vice President of Social Responsibility Barbara Bush. “This innovative look into NBA facilities helps to inspire and encourage students to explore how they can connect classroom lessons in STEM to exciting careers that create even brighter futures for our communities and our planet.”

Following its premiere on April 18, 2024, Game Plan for the Future: A Virtual Field Trip with the NBA will be available on the NBA Channel within Discovery Education Experience, the company’s award-winning learning platform.
