PBL World 2023 Conference Focuses on Sharing Stories of High Quality Project Based Learning (PBL)

Premiere PBL professional development conference from PBLWorks takes place June 26-29, 2023, in Napa Valley, California

Novato, CA (November 9, 2022) – PBLWorks, the leading provider of professional development for high-quality Project Based Learning (PBL), has opened registration for PBL World 2023, its premiere professional development conference for Project Based Learning. This year, the conference focuses on how gold standard PBL can change the narrative for all students, especially Black and Brown students.

The conference takes place June 26-29, 2023, at American Canyon High School in Napa Valley and is expected to draw 1,500 teachers, and school and district leaders from around the United States and world who want to start, deepen, or expand their work in Project Based Learning. It provides immersive workshops based on PBLWorks’ Gold Standard PBL model and helps participants deepen and / or implement PBL in their classrooms, schools and districts.

“Project Based Learning is a powerful way to inspire students – and engage them more deeply in their learning,” said Bob Lenz, CEO, PBLWorks. The theme of this year’s conference is Sharing Stories: Changing the Narrative through Gold Standard PBL to highlight the impact that high-quality project-based learning can have on transforming the lives of all students, especially Black and Brown students. PBL World is a great opportunity for district and school leaders, and teachers to get targeted professional development focused on high quality PBL so they can help support this transformation and empower all students, and especially Black and Brown students, to succeed.”

The multi-day conference includes an inspirational and thoughtful keynote address from Jason E. Glass, Ed.D., Commissioner & Chief Learner, Kentucky Department of Education, who leads the state’s initiative to bring gold standard PBL to all schools in the state. “In making the necessary shifts in student experience to bring about genuine deeper learning, quality problem and project-based approaches illuminate the ‘how’ of bringing these learning transformations to life,” said Dr. Glass. “PBLWorks is helping us bring this change to scale in Kentucky, supporting our educators with practical action steps and practices so they can implement deeper learning with students. I’m so grateful to be part of the PBL World event, telling Kentucky’s story as an example of a global movement toward more meaningful learning and a better future.”

The conference keynotes also feature a lively panel of students who will share their personal transformative journeys with Project Based Learning.

Highlights of PBL World 2023 include the announcement of the 2023 PBLWorks award winners.

The 2023 PBL Champion Award recognizes a school, a district, and an individual for their commitment to quality PBL work that has had a positive impact on students.

The John Larmer “JL” Lifelong Learner Award is named after PBLWorks’ former director and editor-in-chief, and recognizes up to three teachers for their PBL work. Winners are provided with complimentary registrations for the conference.

Nominations for PBL Champions and John Larmer “JL” Lifelong Learner Awards are open through March 3, 2023.
