Charlotte, NC (Tuesday, February 4, 2025)—Durham North Carolina’s Community School of Digital and Visual Arts (CSDVA) today announced it has selected DreamBox Reading Plus by Discovery Education to support efforts to improve K-8 student achievement in reading. An edtech leader, Discovery Education is the creator of essential K-12 solutions trusted by teachers and students around the world.
CSDVA is a public charter school serving students in grades K-8. Founded in 1998, CSDVA serves primarily minority students deemed at-risk of academic failure based on federal and state definitions and descriptors. Based on the school’s performance on the mandated NC End-of-Grade tests in Math, ELA, and Science, for the past five years CSDVA students have consistently met or exceeded expected annual growth, categorizing the school as a “School of Progress”, indicating that over 60% of the students continue to score at or above Achievement Level III.
To continue the school’s upward trajectory in academic growth, the team at CSDVA sought a classroom-tested digital resource that would support students’ continued achievement in reading through personalized instruction and intervention.
DreamBox Reading Plus is independently proven to accelerate student learning achievement. It focuses on vocabulary, comprehension, and fluency development, and includes a reliable assessment that can be used as a screener, placement test, and measure of growth. As an intervention and instruction program, DreamBox Reading Plus adapts automatically to each student’s changing needs, ensuring individualized learning paths leading toward reading proficiency. The program includes an extensive library of engaging texts, rigorous comprehension tasks, evidence-based writing in a built-in portal, a patented Guided Window for fluency development, a variety of scaffolds, and numerous materials for teacher-led instruction. DreamBox Reading Plus is the only reading solution that addresses silent reading fluency and measures motivation, helping students become proficient, lifelong readers.
“Building student confidence, passion for reading, fluency, comprehension, and vocabulary are all critical to developing students’ personal and academic growth,” said Tai Collins, Exceptional Children Coordinator for the Community School of Digital and Visual Arts. “We are pleased to partner with Discovery Education to bring DreamBox Reading Plus to our students, as we know that its approach to reading, and the results it drives, are aligned to our school’s methods and goals. I look forward to seeing this resource integrated into classroom instruction.”
