Charlotte, NC (Thursday, April 3, 2025)—Nebraska’s Broken Bow Public Schools (BBPS) today announced a new partnership with Discovery Education, the creators of essential K-12 learning solutions used in classrooms around the world. Through this new collaboration, BBSP teachers in grades 1-8 now have access to a set of new digital tools that will ignite student curiosity in science and drive deeper engagement in learning.

Located in central Nebraska’s Custer County and accredited by the State of Nebraska and the North Central Association of Secondary Schools and Colleges continuously since 1915, BBPS serves 800+ PK-12 students. The district strives to prepare students for success beyond graduation by building character while encouraging students to show respect, responsibility, integrity and compassion; optimizing learning for each student through cooperation with families, schools, and the community; and widening opportunities for each student by using today’s technology.

To meet those critical district goals and to enhance BBPS’s existing, high-quality learning experiences, district leaders sought a modern, classroom-tested suite of hands-on digital resources that would engage students in learning through scientific phenomena. Following a thorough review of available resources, BBPS selected:

  • Discovery Education Experience. The essential companion for engaged classrooms, Discovery Education Experience is a supplemental cross-curricular digital resource that inspires teachers and motivates students. Designed expressly for K-12 schools, Experience delivers all-in-one, ready-to-teach lessons and strategies, exciting career exploration resources, standards-aligned content, and flexible tools for differentiation and assessment.
  • Discovery Education Science Techbooks.  Used in classrooms across the United States, the Science Techbooks drive engagement with exclusive phenomena and interactive content. The Science Techbooks are aligned to state standards and feature virtual and hands-on investigations, STEM activities, and instructional supports that enhance the delivery of impactful, blended instruction. The Science Techbooks also include standards connections and differentiation activities that inform instructional planning and guide three-dimensional learning. Available with the Science Techbooks are coordinated teacher guides offering unit, concept, and lesson overviews, accompanying print resources, and pre-packaged kits that make classroom activities easy to implement.

Discovery Education’s Science Techbook is certified as meeting the rigorous, evidence-based ESSA Tier III standards as set forth in the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA). Multiple studies show that regular use of Discovery Education Science Techbook in the classroom has many positive academic results for educators and students across a variety of districts and populations in the United States. This research and more can be found here.

“Creating engaging, modern, learning experiences that help students acquire the knowledge and develop the skills needed to thrive in the future is critical to meeting Broken Bow Public Schools’ goal to prepare all learners for success beyond graduation,” said Superintendent Darren Tobey. “With these new resources in hand, our educators have a powerful new tool to support that mission.”

BBPS educators using Discovery Education solutions will receive dedicated professional development from Discovery Education’s team of professional learning experts. These learning opportunities for teachers help schools recognize the full return on their edtech investment. Through Discovery Education’s interactive professional development sessions, participants will learn best practices for integrating their new digital resources into instruction. Effective professional learning increases student engagement and supports the continued academic development of all students.

In addition, all educators using Discovery Education’s digital resources have access to the Discovery Educator Network. A global community of education professionals, the Discovery Educator Network connects members across school systems and around the world through social media, virtual conferences, and in-person events, fostering valuable idea sharing and inspiration.

“The Discovery Education team is thrilled to be selected to support the Broken Bow School District’s efforts to enhance science education,” said Ashleigh Deming, Discovery Education Account Executive. “We look forward to the integration of these resources into everyday instruction and to watching the district’s students, learn, grow and succeed.”
