As the world continues to evolve and industries become more specialized, the demand for skilled workers is on the rise. This is where Career and Technical Education (CTE) comes into play. CTE programs provide students with the necessary skills and knowledge to enter the workforce in a specific career field. From healthcare to technology, CTE offers a wide range of opportunities for students to explore and unlock their potential. In this article, we will discuss the benefits of CTE and why it is a valuable option for students.

Hands-On Learning

One of the main benefits of CTE is its hands-on approach to learning. Unlike traditional classroom settings, CTE programs offer students the opportunity to gain practical experience in their chosen field. This allows students to apply their knowledge in a real-world setting and develop the necessary skills to succeed in their future careers. Whether it’s through internships, apprenticeships, or on-the-job training, CTE programs provide students with valuable hands-on experience that cannot be replicated in a traditional classroom.

Preparation for the Workforce

CTE programs are designed to prepare students for the workforce. By focusing on specific career fields, students are able to gain the skills and knowledge needed to enter the job market with confidence. CTE programs also provide students with the opportunity to network with professionals in their chosen field, giving them a head start in building their professional network. This not only increases their chances of finding employment after graduation but also helps them understand the expectations and demands of the workforce.

High-Demand Careers

CTE programs are designed to meet the demands of the job market. This means that the skills and knowledge taught in these programs are in high demand by employers. By choosing a CTE program, students are setting themselves up for success in a career field that is in demand. This not only increases their chances of finding employment but also provides them with job security and potential for career growth.

Cost-Effective Education

CTE programs are often more cost-effective than traditional four-year degree programs. By focusing on specific career fields, students are able to complete their education in a shorter amount of time, saving them money on tuition and other expenses. Additionally, many CTE programs offer opportunities for students to earn industry certifications, which can increase their earning potential and make them more competitive in the job market.

Personalized Learning

CTE programs offer a personalized learning experience for students. By focusing on specific career fields, students are able to tailor their education to their interests and strengths. This not only makes learning more engaging and enjoyable but also allows students to develop a deeper understanding of their chosen field. CTE programs also offer smaller class sizes, allowing for more one-on-one interaction with instructors and a more personalized learning experience.

Conclusion

In conclusion, it is clear that Career and Technical Education (CTE) offers numerous benefits for individuals looking to unlock their potential and achieve success in their chosen career paths. From providing hands-on training and practical skills to preparing students for in-demand jobs, CTE equips individuals with the necessary tools to thrive in today’s competitive job market. Additionally, CTE offers a more affordable and efficient alternative to traditional four-year degrees, making it accessible to a wider range of individuals. By investing in CTE, individuals can pave the way for a successful and fulfilling career, while also contributing to the growth and prosperity of their communities. So, whether you are a student, parent, or employer, consider the many advantages of CTE and unlock your potential today.

SAN MATEO, Calif.Dec. 2, 2024 — IXL, the award-winning personalized learning platform used by 16 million students, announced that the Virginia Department of Education has approved the IXL Diagnostic as an alternative assessment to the Virginia Growth Assessments. Educators throughout the state can now administer the diagnostic as a beginning-of-year and mid-year assessment to measure students’ overall grade-level proficiency in math and English language arts based on Virginia’s Standards of Learning.

IXL is already being used by 1 in 3 students and 88% of school districts in the state to accurately measure performance, close knowledge gaps and facilitate growth. Schools that have implemented IXL are seeing tremendous results: Research shows that students who used IXL performed better on the Virginia Standards of Learning Assessment in both math and ELA than those using other solutions.

“We are excited about the Virginia Department of Education’s approval of the IXL Diagnostic, and the opportunity to help schools assess knowledge and foster growth,” said Paul Mishkin, CEO of IXL Learning. “IXL has proven to be a valuable learning solution for schools in Virginia, and we look forward to helping even more educators close learning gaps and empower each student to maximize their potential.”

Easily track progress and identify learning trends

Part of the IXL Assessment Suite, the nationally normed IXL Diagnostic has been established through validity research as a precise indicator of student achievement and a strong predictor of performance on standardized assessments. It pinpoints individual grade-level proficiency in math and language arts, giving educators accurate data to guide instruction, identify students needing additional support and monitor growth.

Accurate benchmarking is essential for high-level reporting and decision-making, and the IXL Diagnostic allows administrators to easily set up assessment windows in “Snapshot” mode to capture district- or school-wide data. Administrators can set multiple Snapshot windows throughout the year for students to complete the diagnostic and gather reliable grade-level proficiency data in math and language arts. By analyzing Snapshot data, teachers and administrators can quickly identify learning trends and personalize math instruction to ensure every student is meeting grade-level expectations.

Immediate insights that support daily instruction

Teachers also need reliable insights between benchmarks to understand how to help students make meaningful progress. The IXL Diagnostic fills in those gaps: Students spend as little as 10 minutes a week answering questions that reveal their current knowledge levels. Based on each learner’s results, the diagnostic provides targeted recommendations that will help the student improve. These personalized action plans link seamlessly to specific IXL skills and give teachers a simple way to differentiate instruction.

The IXL Diagnostic also provides a more uplifting assessment experience for students because it does not feel like a traditional test. With engaging questions and positive reinforcement, it is a safe space for learners to better understand themselves, stay motivated and take an active role in their education.

DERRY, N.H. – (Dec. 2, 2024) – Intelitek and educational resource integrator Learning Labs, Inc., announced today that Benton County Schools in Camden, Tenn., has installed the SmartCIM 4.0 training environment in its new computer-integrated manufacturing (CIM) lab. The SmartCIM 4.0 Advanced Manufacturing capstone environment will be installed at Camden Central High School.

Supporting the state’s focus on developing CTE in high schools, the new lab was funded through Tennessee’s Innovative School Models grant program, which empowers schools to eliminate the structural barriers that exist between K-12, postsecondary, and workforce systems. As a result, more students have opportunities to participate in innovative local programs aligned to Tennessee’s highest-demand skills and careers. Benton County Schools is the recipient of a $2.7 million grant, part of which was used to fund the lab.

“Thanks to that historic investment made by Governor Bill Lee and the Tennessee General Assembly, this will be the first CIM lab installed anywhere in the state,” said Tony Oran, CEO of Intelitek. “We are incredibly honored to have been chosen to help Benton County Schools blaze this trail.”

The SmartCIM 4.0 is a real manufacturing line and training system that gives students hands-on experience with industrial-grade equipment and applications within a school lab environment. The system is configured to function as a fully automated factory, supporting the design, manufacture, and testing of products and components. Key components of the Benton County Career and Technical Center’s installation include:

  • A closed loop conveyor for seven manufacturing stations
  • A 72-bay ASRS (automated storage and retrieval system) and RFID reader
  • A BenchMill 6100 CNC milling machine with a six-axis GP8 Yaskawa Robot serving the mill
  • A BenchTurn 7100 CNC lathe machine with a six-axis GP8 Yaskawa Robot serving the lathe
  • A laser engraver with a six-axis GP8 Yaskawa Robot serving parts to the engraver
  • An automated welding cell with a six-axis GP8 Yaskawa Robot manipulating the parts
  • An assembly and QC station with a six-axis GP8 Yaskawa Robot automating the assembly and parts handling

The system is controlled by the CIM System Management Station, which includes Intelitek’s OpenMES software. In addition, the conveyor and stations are monitored by IO-Link sensors and an Allen Bradley CompactLogix 5000 PLC control unit. From the OpenMES control software, students program and monitor the manufacturing process and learn how a real factory process works.

Intelitek and Learning Labs, Inc., will jointly install the SmartCIM 4.0 system, provide training for the instructors and support the system in the future. Intelitek will also offer access to its complete training library of more than 100 courses, so instructors will have the option of combining CIM-specific courses with other Intelitek courses to build a comprehensive Career and Technical Education solution. Course curricula will be delivered through Intelitek’sLearnMate® e-learning platform.

“I’m more excited about this project than I have been about any project in my entire career,” stated Randy Shannon, the supervisor of college and career readiness at Benton County Schools. Shannon pointed out that the new CIM lab aligns with the state’s BlueOval City initiative, an automotive manufacturing ecosystem located in West Tennessee. “Everything that we’re doing here is going to be a microcosm of what you would find there,” he said.

Shannon continued, “The push for CTE is going to be foundational and fundamental to our economy moving forward, and this project is a team effort in every single way.”
