Sprig Reading:Powered by Joyful Literacy is an interactive app for teachers in JK to Grade 3 classrooms. This unique platform allows teachers to assess and track all evidence-based foundational early literacy skills, group students according to skill level and instructional needs, and celebrate progress with parents. It’s a complete reading skill framework based on the Science of Reading and packed into a powerful app that can be accessed by teachers anywhere, at any time. It contains everything teachers need to make their students strong and confident readers, including those children with dyslexia or other learning disabilities.

“All students across the world deserve the right to read. When we learned about the Joyful Literacy methodology, and its repeated success locally in British Columbia, we immediately saw the potential to incorporate our holistic learning technology, scale the solution and bring this opportunity to all young learners across the world”, says Jarrett Laughlin, Founder and CEO of Sprig Learning.

The Joyful Literacy framework used in the app has a successful and consistent track-record of achieving over 85% grade-level literacy amongst students. Teachers use circle charts to track hundreds of essential literacy skills that are foundational for reading success. With the advent of Sprig Reading, they will be able to digitally plan, assess and track skill mastery for diverse classrooms. Learning can be accelerated and interventions can be applied as necessary.

“Over the past eight years, we have dedicated ourselves to creating and implementing this literacy framework,” says Dr. Janet Mort, founder of the Joyful Literacy Framework. She adds, “Our results show we can significantly improve outcomes for early learners. Now, we are joining forces with Sprig Learning to make it even easier for teachers to achieve literacy proficiency for all students, including those with dyslexia and other learning disabilities.”

The literacy gap in the early years has only widened since the pandemic. While there are many causes for poor reading outcomes, there is compelling evidence to suggest that school systems need to change their approach to reading instruction.  Sprig Reading hopes to make an immediate impact on early literacy outcomes by simplifying science-based reading instruction for educators.

Sprig Reading will be available for purchase for the 2022-23 school year.
