Teacher Appreciation Week

To celebrate Teacher Appreciation Week 2023, the team at edCircuit would like to show gratitude to all of the teachers and coaches in their lives. This year, we are sharing stories of a few teachers who have touched our lives and helped us be who we are today. Thank you, educators!

Dan Cavalli

Dear Donna Magliano Gerard – My 5th grade teacher and 6th through 8th Grade reading tutor. I hated reading, and I am still not a fan today, but without the support of Ms. Gerard, my reading skills would never have developed, high school would have been more challenging, and being a veteran in the education industry for the past 30 years would never have been possible.

Thank you for all you did, and please know that without you, I would not have been the professional, coach, and supportive father of three daughters I am today! Happy Teacher Appreciation Day!

Mr. Hall, or Coach Hall, was a teacher and coach who impacted my life. In the classroom, Mr. Hall provided real-life lessons, allowing students to be free and respectful thinkers. Mr. Hall taught me how an open-door policy and listening were a cornerstone in developing trust. Thank you, Mr. Hall, for always being there for your students and athletes.

My 9th grade English teacher, Ms. Peebles, was a transformative teacher in my life. Growing up, I had a learning impediment that would keep me from reading at grade level until my freshman year of high school. Over summers and during all of my extra time, I dedicated myself to catching up. This hard work paid off, and I was able to sign up for honors English freshman year. That was the year Ms. Peebles introduced me to Shakespeare.

Ms. Peebles was patient, critical when I needed it, and, most of all, gracious. Her class transformed how and why I read. She set me on a path to become the writer and editor I am today. I cannot thank her enough for her wholehearted dedication to the craft and profession of teaching.

My 5th grade teacher Mrs. Daniels taught me lessons that I carry with me daily as an adult. I was a new transfer to the school, and she saw promise in me. I’ll never forget when she raised her eyebrow, reading over one of my assignments and telling me I had been placed in the wrong reading group.

Not only did she hold me to high academic standards, giving me an opportunity to rise to occasion after occasion, but she taught me my worth. I remember her pulling me aside to say that she expected great things from me and to never let her down. I hope I’m not letting you down, Mrs. Daniels!
