NEW PALTZ, NY (December 5) – Ulster BOCES is thrilled to announce that it has been honored with the prestigious Deeper Learning Designation from Deeper Learning Global (DLg). This recognition affirms the Ulster BOCES commitment to fostering innovative and transformative learning experiences for educators in the region.
Deeper learning is a pedagogical approach that encourages students to think critically, collaborate effectively, and communicate clearly. It goes beyond traditional classroom methods to prepare students for the challenges of the modern world. Ulster BOCES recognizes the importance of equipping educators with the tools and knowledge necessary to instill deeper learning principles in their classrooms.
“We are incredibly proud to receive the Deeper Learning Designation from Deeper Learning Global,” said Dr. Jonah Schenker, District Superintendent at Ulster BOCES. “This recognition reflects our mission of cultivating a community of educators who are passionate about nurturing deeper learning principles and creating transformative learning experiences for our students. We look forward to continuing to expand our commitment to deeper learning principles.”
DLg, inspired by and affiliated with the renowned international Deeper Learning (DL) Conference held annually in San Diego, aims to create regional deeper learning networks through smaller conferences worldwide. These events serve as catalysts for building lasting connections among participants by utilizing a cadre of local facilitators, speakers, musicians, and artists to engage in collaborative and transformative learning experiences.
“It’s a privilege to welcome Ulster BOCES into the Deeper Learning Global Community,” said Tina Schuster, director of pedagogy and innovation at the High Tech High Graduate School of Education. “Ulster is a forward-thinking district with a commitment to helping students dig deeper into their own learning, and we look forward to seeing how they partner with the rest of the Deeper Learning network to transform the future of learning.”
The Deeper Learning Designation received by Ulster BOCES highlights its dedication to enhancing educational practices and outcomes for educators throughout the region. By participating in DLg events and embracing the principles of deeper learning, Ulster BOCES has demonstrated a strong commitment to fostering educational excellence, its proactive approach to professional development, and its determination to elevate the quality of education in the region.
“DLg’s regional conferences are instrumental in bringing together educators, thought leaders, and experts to share best practices and strategies for implementing deeper learning in educational settings,” added Schenker. “At Ulster BOCES, we are deeply focused on our ‘North Star Educational Commitments’ and believe that embracing the deeper learning pedagogical approach provides students with a well-rounded education that equips them with the skills, knowledge, and mindset needed to succeed in a rapidly changing world. These elements ensure that students are not only prepared academically, but are also prepared to be engaged and contributing members of their communities.”
According to Schenker, Ulster BOCES plans to continue its journey toward deeper learning excellence and to leverage the valuable connections and resources provided by DLg to further enhance the educational experiences of students and educators alike.
