Teacher Appreciation

Teacher Appreciation Week is held each year in the first full week of May, with National Teacher Day on the Tuesday of that week. Schools, parent-teacher associations, students and communities use it to thank the teachers who shape children's lives, from handwritten notes and staff-room lunches to public recognition.

The best recognition does not end when the week does. Teachers say the appreciation that matters most is specific, sincere and steady: time to plan, a voice in decisions, support with difficult students and colleagues who notice good work. Schools that treat appreciation as part of how they keep teachers, not only as a celebration, see the difference all year.

edCircuit's coverage is written for principals, PTA leaders, families and teachers themselves. It offers practical ideas for the week, stories in educators' own voices, and ways to make appreciation last beyond May. For hiring and keeping teachers, see Teaching Jobs and Careers and K-12 Teachers.
