WASHINGTON, D.C. Noguera is closing out an inspirational three-day leadership development event featuring informative breakout sessions and thought-provoking presentations from several standout speakers.

“We are thrilled to have Dr. Noguera deliver the keynote address on the final day of the Summit,” said ALAS Executive Director Ulysses Navarrete. “Dr. Noguera is an inspirational speaker with vast expertise in the issues of race and equity in education. His insight will be incredibly valuable to Summit participants.”

Dr. Pedro Antonio Noguera is one of the nation’s leading scholars on issues related to race, inequality and education. He currently serves as the Emery Stoops and Joyce King Stoops Dean of the USC Rossier School of Education. He has also served as an advisor to the governor of New Mexico on education policy, and worked as an advisor to the state departments of education in Washington, Oregon, New York and Rhode Island, as well as several large urban school districts throughout the country. Noguera was appointed to President Joe Biden’s National Commission on Hispanics in 2022 and appointed co-chair of the state of California’s Black Student Achievement Taskforce in 2021. Noguera has received seven honorary doctorates from American universities, and has received awards from the Center for the Advanced Study in the Behavioral Sciences at Stanford University, the National Association of Secondary School Principals, and from the McSilver Institute for Poverty Policy and Research at NYU for his research and advocacy efforts aimed at fighting poverty. In 2023 he was ranked first in the nation by Education Week for influence and impact in the field of education.

The ALAS National Education Summit is the association’s flagship leadership development and networking event for administrators at schools and districts that serve primarily Latino and other historically marginalized youth. The event focuses on addressing challenges in the education system, particularly those impacting Latino students, and provides a forum for participants to engage in meaningful discussions and identify solutions that can be applied throughout the industry.

The theme of this year’s Summit is “Embracing Tomorrow, Fostering Culture, Driving Change, and Promoting Collaboration.” The three-day event features inspiring speakers, informative breakout sessions, policy updates, dedicated time for networking, and a (ticketed) black-tie awards gala. Activities are geared toward administrators and aspiring administrators, school board members, education leaders and solution providers.
