WASHINGTON, D.C. (September 5, 2023) – The Association of Latino Administrators and Superintendents (ALAS) has appointed Eudes S. Budhai to its board of directors to serve as State Affiliate At Large.
Budhai is a nationally recognized expert on racial equity and inclusion and brings a wealth of leadership experience from his roles leading school districts in New York. He currently serves as interim assistant superintendent for secondary education at the Peekskill City School District in New York. He has also held superintendent roles at Nyack Public Schools and Westbury Union Free School District, both in New York.

Budhai was born and raised in New York City to immigrant parents. He began his career in education as a paraprofessional with the New York City Board of Education while simultaneously working to obtain his educational degree to become a bilingual special education teacher. He then joined the Mount Vernon School District, where he served as an educator, chair and principal. In 2013, he joined the Westbury Union Free School District where he served as assistant superintendent for curriculum, instruction and personnel before being named superintendent in 2017.
At Westbury, Budhai was instrumental in the passage of a $58.5 million bond referendum to expand schools as well as the passage of four budgets over $151 million. He increased family engagement and championed diversity, equity and inclusion. During his tenure, the high school was recognized as one of 12 schools in New York State to achieve higher graduation rates than the state average for students of color and for all students.
Budhai was hired as superintendent of Nyack Public Schools in 2021 and currently serves as interim assistant superintendent for secondary education at the Peekskill City School District.
Budhai is fluent in Spanish, is a nationally recognized expert on racial equity and inclusion, and has spoken at seminars and conventions for the National Association for Bilingual Education, the New York State School Boards Association, ALAS and others. He is a recipient of the Trailblazer in Education award by the Nassau County Executive and the Town of North Hempstead Hispanic in Leadership Award.
