Lexia Unveils Science of Reading Classroom, A Unified Approach to Literacy Instruction at Scale

Science of Reading Classroom by Lexia brings together instruction, assessment, and educator support to power a cohesive literacy ecosystem

Lexia unveils the Science of Reading Classroom which will provide a unified approach to literacy instruction at scale.

BOSTON, Mass. — April 15, 2026 — Fewer than one-third of U.S. students are reading proficiently at grade level, according to the most recent National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) — a stark indicator of the ongoing literacy crisis facing schools. Despite increased investment in literacy programs, this challenge persists. In response, Lexia, a Cambium Learning Group brand, today announced Science of Reading Classroom by Lexia, a comprehensive approach designed to help schools deliver science of reading instruction consistently at scale across K–12.

“For too long, schools have had to piece together multiple tools to support literacy instruction, with inconsistent results,” said Nick Gaehde, President of Lexia. “Science of Reading Classroom changes that. It gives educators a clear, cohesive approach to applying the science of reading in daily instruction with the tools and support they need to teach with confidence and drive stronger student outcomes.”

At its core, Science of Reading Classroom is designed to deliver a unified approach. It enables:

  • Aligned literacy instruction grounded in the science of reading, including LETRS-aligned explicit instruction embedded into daily student activities
  • Flexible, modular learning paths that enable targeted skill development
  • Real-time insights and integrated assessment data that guide next instructional steps
  • Job-embedded professional learning, including LETRS Coaching and LETRS Connect, alongside core ELA instruction
  • Systemwide visibility that helps monitor progress and inform decisions

This approach eliminates fragmentation and gives educators the clarity and confidence needed to accelerate reading outcomes. By aligning instruction, data, and professional learning within a single system, Science of Reading Classroom helps schools move from disconnected efforts to a more consistent, scalable model for literacy improvement, designed to accelerate reading growth and improve long-term student outcomes.

As science of reading-aligned instruction continues to accelerate across states and districts, the need for solutions that are not only evidence-based, but also cohesive and scalable across entire school systems has grown. Rather than adding another program, Science of Reading Classroom is designed to replace fragmented tools with a more coherent, systemwide model for literacy instruction.

Science of Reading Classroom by Lexia addresses this need through a connected, classroom-centered approach that:

  • Integrates curriculum, assessment, and professional learning into a single, cohesive system
  • Provides ongoing, practice-based support through LETRS Coaching and LETRS Connect
  • Helps educators translate professional learning into daily instruction and improved student outcomes
  • Works alongside existing core instruction to support classroom practice

This approach also powers a unified literacy ecosystem, connecting instruction, data, and professional learning to provide real-time guidance, systemwide visibility, and sustained support for educators.

Enabling this approach is an artificial intelligence layer that unifies curriculum, assessment, insights, and professional learning into a connected system. By continuously analyzing student data, it will provide real-time, next-best instructional guidance to inform teaching and educator support, while also delivering visibility across classrooms, schools, and districts. This ensures that science of reading practices are not only aligned, but actionable — supporting teachers in the moment and helping leaders make informed decisions at scale.

This powerful approach starts with our 2026 back-to-school product release. Lexia is bringing this vision to life through new capabilities across instruction, content, and data, including:

  • Enhanced instruction with LETRS-aligned explicit teaching embedded at the start of every student activity
  • Modularized content that enables flexible learning paths and targeted skill development
  • Deeper data integration, connecting district assessment data directly to instruction within myLexia

Together, these innovations represent an important step toward realizing the full vision of the Science of Reading Classroom and reflect Lexia’s continued leadership in advancing evidence-based literacy instruction.

“As a K–12 literacy leader for more than 40 years, Lexia is accelerating classroom-ready, evidence-based solutions — starting this summer with new capabilities that unify instruction, data, and professional learning,” Gaehde added. “With districts undergoing resource pressure, they need solutions that work seamlessly to support educators and drive measurable student outcomes. By bringing these elements into a single system, we’re helping schools move from fragmented efforts to a more coherent, sustainable approach to literacy improvement.”
