HOUSTON, TX—May 22, 2025—As Texas schools continue to face urgent attendance challenges, 466 districts—serving more than 3.3 million students, or 62% of all public school students in the state — are turning to SchoolStatus as a trusted partner. With comprehensive attendance management and family engagement solutions, SchoolStatus is helping districts reverse troubling trends: from 2023 to 2025, partner districts have achieved double-digit drops in chronic absenteeism, consistently outperforming state averages and driving measurable gains in student attendance.

“What makes SchoolStatus different is our 360-degree approach to student success,” said Dr. Kara Stern, Director of Education at SchoolStatus. “While others might focus narrowly on attendance tracking, we connect all the elements that drive student outcomes. Our integrated suite of solutions save educators valuable time while providing the insights they need to make a meaningful difference for every student and family.”

Proven Results from Texas Partner Districts

Between 2023 and 2025, SchoolStatus partner districts in Texas saw double-digit reductions in chronic absenteeism, even as statewide rates remained high.

  • Statewide SchoolStatus partner districts are seeing an average 14.80% chronic absenteeism rate for the 2024-25 school year, a 10.87% decrease compared to 2023-24. To put that in perspective, the average chronic absenteeism rate across the state in 2022-23 was 20.3%, according to the Texas Education Agency.

Across SchoolStatus districts, attendance rates rose from 94.03% in 2022–23 to 94.6% in 2024–25, outpacing the statewide average of 93.3% in 2022-23. (latest available TEA data from 2022–23).

  • Sheldon ISD has reduced chronic absenteeism from 18.15% in the 2022-23 school year to 13.18% as of May 2025—a 27.38% reduction. The district has documented meetings with over 4,000 families regarding the importance of attendance.
  • Grand Prairie ISD has decreased chronic absenteeism from 23.99% in the 2022-23 school year to 18.47% as of May 2025, a 23.01% decrease.

“SchoolStatus has transformed how we approach attendance intervention,” said Dr. Tameka Lewis, Student Attendance and Dropout Prevention Coordinator at Grand Prairie ISD. “SchoolStatus gave us all the necessary components in one place, allowing for more meaningful conversations about attendance because of the data insights and communication tools.”
