SpeechLP Launches AI Speech Therapy App at ASHA 2025 Conference

by Hawke Media November 13, 2025
written by Hawke Media 2 minutes read

SpeechLP, an evidence-based AI speech therapy app with articulation games for kids, will officially launch at this year’s American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) 2025 Conference, providing an innovative solution for children’s speech development, their families, and speech-language pathologists (SLPs). Combining advanced phonetic-level analysis with gamified practice, SpeechLP helps children improve articulation while giving SLPs and parents actionable insights into progress.

Developed by a team of engineers, linguists, and SLPs, SpeechLP bridges the gap between clinical diagnostics and engaging learning experiences. The platform’s embedded screener evaluates a child’s pronunciation of words, identifies specific phonetic challenges, and delivers personalized exercises to reinforce skill development—all while maintaining strict privacy standards, including HIPAA and COPPA compliance.

“Our goal with SpeechLP is simple: give children an effective, fun way to practice speech while supporting parents and clinicians with reliable, detailed data,” said Shail Silver, co-founder of SpeechLP. “As a parent myself, I know firsthand how time-consuming home practice can be, and we wanted to create an app that empowers families while still delivering clinical-quality results.”

The platform has been designed in collaboration with practicing speech-language pathologists, ensuring that every game and exercise aligns with best practices in therapy. Sarah Fleischman, SLP and SpeechLP advisor, shared, “Families and clinicians face limited resources and repetitive exercises that can be hard to sustain. With SpeechLP, children can practice more often, stay engaged, and accelerate progress toward their speech goals.”

Available initially on Apple devices, SpeechLP is free to use during its launch phase. The product is ideal for children ages 3–9, including pre-K through early elementary, but its accessibility benefits extend to all users working on articulation skills.

Conference attendees are invited to visit SpeechLP at Booth 3148 to see the platform in action, meet the team, and experience how AI is reshaping speech therapy for children. To learn more about SpeechLP, visit speechlp.com.

New Acquisition by Edmentum Creates Comprehensive Platform to Help Students Chart Their Path Beyond High School

by Edmentum November 5, 2025
written by Edmentum 5 minutes read

Bloomington, MN (October 29, 2025)—Edmentum announced its acquisition of MajorClarity, a tool that translates students’ career discovery into actionable academic plans and postsecondary opportunities, from Paper. MajorClarity expands the Edmentum Career offering to become the only end-to-end solution connecting career discovery, academic planning, high-impact curricula, and certification preparation for both college-bound and career-ready pathways. Edmentum Career features 180+ CTE semesters with embedded durable skills, aligned to 57 multi-year pathways across grades 6-12. It enables students to build a deeper connection to their learning, engage in personalized career exploration, and successfully advance into relevant, desired next steps after graduation.

A recent study from Gallup, the Walton Family Foundation, and Jobs for the Future found that Gen Z students have little awareness of postsecondary options, especially the available choices other than paid work or earning a bachelor’s degree—such as earning an associate’s degree, gaining certifications, or pursuing an internship or apprenticeship. Further, fewer than 30% of high school students feel “very prepared” to pursue any of the postsecondary options they are considering. The combined MajorClarity and Edmentum Career solution addresses these challenges directly by taking students through the full sequence from identifying their interests and learning about aligned careers, all the way through to real postsecondary preparation―including completing a capstone course to solidify employability and studying two-year or four-year colleges and technical schools relevant to their preferred course of study.

“In the pursuit of college and career readiness for high school graduates, there has long been a gap between the vision—access and opportunity for all students, exposure to relevant and high-demand options, rigorous workforce-aligned learning, and the ability to enter into and succeed in both college and career—and the means for practical, scalable implementation. We believe those days are over,” said Jamie Candee, President & CEO of Edmentum. “It is with tremendous enthusiasm that I announce Edmentum’s acquisition of MajorClarity. This platform will combine with our robust Edmentum Career solution to transform school districts’ vision of what they want to achieve, combined with their knowledge of what their curriculum and programs can support, into an actionable, sustainable system to ensure every learner is set up for postsecondary success.”

Research shows that rates of engagement and hope increase as students participate in more career-connected learning (CCL) opportunities, and further recent data demonstrates that absenteeism decreases when students are more engaged. There’s also evidence that strong CTE programs improve high school graduation rates and set students up for success, whether they choose postsecondary education or go directly into the labor market. This compelling data makes clear the value of expanding CCL access for all secondary students.

Importantly, students’ success, including graduation rate and earnings, improves when they “concentrate” by taking at least three courses along a specific CTE pathway—a reality made possible by Edmentum’s comprehensive approach. By starting career exploration in grade 6, students have an early opportunity to discover their interests—and, just as importantly, what they don’t like—and then stack learning experiences over their secondary years.

“Student engagement begins with relevance, and is strengthened when students can see their schools’ clear intentions behind building programs designed with the student and their future in mind. Put simply: give students the courses they want and they’ll engage,” added Candee. “We’re excited that MajorClarity helps students make the connections between their interests, their academics, and the career they want to pursue. That’s a strong foundation from which engagement and outcomes follow.”

“We’re thrilled to see MajorClarity join Edmentum, whose deep expertise and commitment to career-connected learning will enable the platform to reach even greater scale and impact,” said Martina Tam, CEO of Paper. “This acquisition marks an exciting next chapter for MajorClarity and the districts it serves—while also allowing Paper to focus fully on our core mission: delivering measurable student growth through high-impact tutoring and AI-powered academic support. With scalable, research-backed programs like GROW, we’re helping schools accelerate learning and ensure every student has the support to thrive.”

There is intense interest in focused college and career readiness efforts, both in the United States and globally. According to an Advance CTE report, 40 U.S. states approved more than 152 policies promoting CTE in 2024—the most since 2019. Internationally, programs like the OECD’s Career Readiness Project are intended to better prepare students for the evolving labor market.

Truly designing programs inclusively around both college and career readiness—as outlined in examples like Virginia’s 3E accountability framework and Indiana’s Graduation Pathways model (both built around preparing students for enrollment in higher education, employment, or enlistment in the military)—rather than allowing “college-ready” and “career-ready” to operate on separate tracks, can be challenging to enact at scale. MajorClarity and Edmentum Career are set up specifically to address districts’ work toward these objectives, eliminating fragmented systems and bringing scalable, cost-effective, and comprehensive college and career readiness together.

Lexia’s ‘All For Literacy’ Podcast Kicks Off Fifth Season with a New Host and a New Focus on Science of Reading Implementation and Sustainability

by Nickel Communications November 3, 2025
written by Nickel Communications 3 minutes read

BOSTON (Nov. 3, 2025) – The popular “All For Literacy” monthly podcast series from Lexia, a Cambium Learning Group brand, has returned with a new host, Lexia Senior Education Advisor Kerri Larkin. This season, Larkin is exploring how educators are implementing the science of reading. Listeners can tune into new episodes, as well as the first four seasons of the series, via Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Audible, Podchaser, and YouTube.

Larkin succeeds Dr. Liz Brook, Lexia’s Chief Learning Officer, who had hosted the podcast since its debut in 2023. “Under Dr. Brook’s stewardship, ‘All For Literacy’ helped us understand the neuroscience and educational psychology behind why so many of us struggle with some component of reading. More importantly, she and her guests shared what instruction would mitigate that struggle,” said Larkin. “Going forward, we’re going to talk about how to translate that science into meaningful classroom instruction, systems alignment, and systems change – what works, the challenges that remain, and how to move forward.”

Lexia experts will regularly join fifth season episodes as special contributors including:

  • Lexia National Senior Education Advisor Octavia Essex-Gray, Ed.D.
  • Lexia Region Office and State Organization Outreach Specialist Candace Hall, M.Ed.

“Octavia and Candance will be bringing fresh perspectives, specific expertise, and a brand-new lens to the topics that our panelists discuss,” said Larkin. “I’m looking forward to hearing what they and our guests will share this season.”

Larkin’s experience with the power of literacy transformation will serve her well as the podcast’s host. Prior to joining Lexia in 2021, Larkin spent more than 20 years teaching and leading the District of Columbia Public Schools (DCPS). Under her leadership as Senior Deputy Chief of Specialized Instruction, DCPS students with disabilities made double digit gains on the NAEP assessment, in both reading and math. Lexia played a meaningful role in that progress.  Since joining Lexia, Larkin travels nationally and collaborates with District leaders all over the country who are “learning out loud” about the science of reading and its capacity to transform outcomes for all students.

“All For Literacy” has earned a 4.9 rating on Apple Podcasts and a 4.7 rating on Spotify, becoming a cornerstone for advancing literacy education. To listen to episodes or learn more about the podcast series, visit www.allforliteracy.com.

BW Walch and AMSTI Renew Partnership to Advance Math Achievement Across Alabama

by Nickel Communications October 15, 2025
written by Nickel Communications 3 minutes read

Portland, ME — Oct. 15, 2025 — BW Walch today announced an extended partnership with the Alabama Math, Science, and Technology Initiative (AMSTI) to continue scaling implementation of the Ongoing Assessment Project (OGAP) professional learning program across Alabama schools. The multi-year extension reinforces both organizations’ shared commitment to empowering educators with the tools, resources, and research-based practices that help more students succeed in mathematics.

Since the partnership began, OGAP’s systematic, research-grounded professional learning has become a cornerstone of Alabama’s K–8 math improvement strategy. Through AMSTI, thousands of Alabama teachers have been trained to use OGAP’s diagnostic frameworks and progressions—helping them identify student misconceptions early and respond with targeted instruction.

Recent statewide data show encouraging progress. Alabama’s math scores, which declined sharply during the pandemic, are now recovering faster than those in nearly every other state. According to the National Assessment of Educational Progress and the Opportunity Project’s Recovery Explorer, Alabama’s fourth- and eighth-grade math proficiency rates have climbed steadily since 2022, with particularly strong gains in districts where AMSTI and OGAP have been implemented.

“This partnership with AMSTI has demonstrated what’s possible when teachers are not only supported but empowered with evidence-based professional learning that deepens their understanding of how students learn math,” said Al Noyes, CEO of BW Walch. “OGAP enables educators to look beyond right or wrong answers—to see inside students’ reasoning, address misconceptions, and help every learner build lasting mathematical understanding. We’re proud to extend this collaboration and continue supporting Alabama’s math recovery.”

Developed through National Science Foundation research, OGAP equips teachers with both the pedagogical and content expertise to transform instruction. Its frameworks and learning progressions provide a common language across grade levels and curricula, supporting consistent, research-based math instruction that helps students build deeper understanding and achieve stronger learning outcomes nationwide.

Under the renewed partnership, BW Walch and AMSTI will expand professional learning opportunities for educators, deepen support for district-level implementation, and introduce new online tools to enhance ongoing coaching and collaboration.

OGAP has earned an ESSA Tier I: Strong Evidence rating and is recognized nationally for improving mathematics achievement.
